Our Travel

Built by Seahorse Marine in Zhuhai China near Hong Kong, our Mandarin 52 foot motorsailer (50' + a 2' swim/dive/boarding platform) is both a comfortable residence and a passagemaker.  Villa G is a full keel, no nonsense motorsailer, 52' LOA with a 56' mast. She has furling on all sails and a 150 hp Izuzu diesel engine.

She has a traditional "V" berth in the bow and a double bunk cabin to port and a single queen size bed in cabin aft. A head with separate shower is located to starboard off the saloon for our guests.

Aft of the saloon are the galley to port and a large workshop to starboard with excellent engine access on each side of the engine. A spiral staircase leads to the pilothouse with its own dinette and to the cockpit which has a hard top bimini.

The aft cabin's head has a full size tub and shower! Our layout has a centered queen size bed and eight feet of hanging locker space. In addition to lots of storage lockers, Villa G has a washing machine and a large chest freezer, standard frig, 3 LPG burners and one electric burner on the cook top.

All rigging is new in 2011 due to a demasting following a chainplate failure.  The new chainplates have been moved to the external surface of the hull and through bolted. The genoa and stay sails from Quantum are set on ProFurlers and the main furls into a Leisure Furl boom.  All rigging was done by Precision Shipwrights and David Samuelson in Phuket Thailand.

Take a look at more than 600 photos taken during the installation of the new mast and significant updating done in 2011.

While we were in Boat Lagoon Phuket getting new rigging, it was necessary to repair a lot of cabinetry following removal of the old chainplates.  This was a good opportunity for all the aged and water damaged woodwork to be repaired or replace by Nye and Toes crews (Phuket Inter Woodwork).  They also refinished the hull and decks with Awlgrip.

Villa G is equiped with a Northern Lights generator, Spectra watermaker, dive compressor, SSB and VHF radios, 320 watts of solar panels, Iridium phones and Raymarine AIS, MFD, autopilots and digital radar.  While in Phuket we found Octopus Electrical to do great work and used their expertise to both install new electronics and also update and correct defective and deficient wiring.

Seahorse Marine is still making the Mandarin 52 and the details on their current website is not much different in concept from Villa G: Click Here
